OUR BAPTIST HERITAGE

As a pastors kid I grew up all my life in a Baptist world.  My father was a Baptist pastor in the same Baptist church for 41 years. I was born, raised, taught, saved, called and served in the same Baptist church for 61 years.  I found my wife in and raised my 4 daughters in the same Baptist church also.  I served for 38 years and pastored for 19 of those years in the same Baptist church.  I guess it is safe to say I am a Baptist!
  However,  as a teen I had to come to a place where my beliefs became mine and not my parents.  I had to begin asking why I believe what I believe. Today,  I believe what I believe about the Bible and practice my beliefs because they are my convictions. So…
                * I am a BELIEVER because I have put my faith in Jesus Christ.
                * I am a CHRISTIAN because I act Christ-Like.
                * I am a FUNDAMENTALIST because I believe in the Great Cardinal Doctrines of Gods Word.
                * I am a BAPTIST because I believe in the Four Root Principles of our Heritage.
                * I am a JURISDICTIONALIST because I believe in the Lordship of Christ over His Church.
  Many years ago an old Nazarene Pastor friend of mine said…”DON’T CHANGE YOUR DOCTRINE UNTIL YOU HAVE TO.”  Well, I have had to fine tune some things throughout the years but I have never had to change any “major” doctrine I have come to understand.  I think this is true because Baptist doctrine based upon the Bible rightly divides the Word of Truth.
  I believe Baptist doctrine is vitally important on so many levels.  This new blog will demonstrate this and deal with Baptist issues based upon the Bible as I have come to understand them.  You may disagree with me at times and that’s ok because Baptists believe in “Soul Liberty.”  We can agree to disagree and still be friends or at least we should be able to.  I will write about some controversial subjects but my main Goal is to promote Baptist Doctrine and the “FAITH ONCE DELIVERED TO THE SAINTS.”
  As one author stated,  the local Baptist church is being destroyed and this blog is for the purpose of reviving it’s importance!
